A calm, quiet lifestyle newborn session in Roseville, CA...

This is a behind-the-scenes look at what an in-home newborn session experience in Roseville is like.

This is the Wolverton family, and their little boy came into the world a couple weeks early. He is dainty and incredibly calm. I did not hear a peep from him once when I was there, which is seriously impressive (go mom!)

Capturing the most important memories.

During this newborn session, we made sure to get pictures of:

  • the family all together
  • kids + baby
  • mom + dad + baby
  • mom + baby
  • dad + baby
  • baby alone

We start with the combination with the most people and make our way down the list until it's portraits of baby alone.

*TIP: I highly recommend getting grandma or a sitter to hang out with siblings so mom and dad can be relaxed while taking photos with the baby.

Many people ask- what if my baby is fussy?

This whole process takes about 2 hours- which means there's *zero* rush.

There is time for:

  • Baby needing to feed 1-2 times
  • Baby needing diaper changes
  • Baby getting burped
  • Baby getting settled
  • Baby needing a cuddle (we'll just photograph it!)

This is exactly why I block out a couple of hours for the session (because it's 100% baby-led).

ON A PERSONAL NOTE-- I'm a mom myself. I know firsthand how exhausting, stressful, and tiring those first few weeks are. If it's your first rodeo, you're still understanding how to feed, soothe, and calm your baby. If you're worried about things not going to plan--take a deep breath. We will get the photos-- sometimes it just takes a moment of calm and soothing (which I can absolutely help with).
