There is something so special about photographing a family during those first days at home with a new baby.


Those early weeks are filled with so many changes, and it's such an honor to preserve this fleeting season before it slips by.


I recently had the joy of photographing sweet baby Aiyla and her family for an in-home newborn session. They had just moved back into their own home after spending the first couple of weeks with family, so they were truly settling into life as a family of four. It made the session feel even more meaningful, capturing the beginning of this new chapter right where so many memories will be made.


A Relaxed In-Home Newborn Session


One of the biggest reasons families choose my Sacramento newborn photography experience is because everything happens in the comfort of your own home.


There's no need to pack diaper bags, rush out the door, or worry about getting everyone ready at the same time. Instead, we move at your baby's pace and create beautiful images in the spaces that already mean so much to your family.


For Aiyla's session, we used the living room and the master bedroom, taking advantage of the beautiful natural light that filled their home. These spaces created the perfect backdrop for timeless family photographs while keeping everyone comfortable and relaxed.


The Sweetest Sleepy Newborn photos


Baby Aiyla slept peacefully through almost the entire session and barely made a sound. The only time she woke up was when she was ready to eat, which is exactly how newborn sessions should go—we simply pause whenever baby needs a feeding or extra cuddles.


After we finished all of the family portraits, we moved into one of my favorite parts of every newborn session: individual baby portraits.


This is a special feature included in all of my newborn collections because I know how important it is to document every tiny detail while they're still so little. Those curled-up poses, sleepy expressions, delicate fingers, and tiny toes change so quickly during those first few weeks.


Giving Parents One Less Thing to Worry About


One thing Mom mentioned after the session really stuck with me.


She loved that the session took place at home because while I photographed Aiyla by herself, she was able to finish getting ready without feeling rushed.


It's one of those unexpected benefits of an in-home newborn session that many parents don't think about beforehand. Instead of trying to have everyone completely ready the moment I arrive, there's flexibility. I guide the session, keep things moving, and make sure we capture beautiful images while allowing parents a little breathing room during such a busy season.


Soft, Feminine Colors for Baby Girl


For their wardrobe, we chose a palette of soft creams, warm neutrals, and gentle blush pinks that beautifully complemented both their home and the excitement of welcoming a baby girl.


I always encourage families to wear colors that feel timeless and coordinate naturally with their home. Light, neutral tones keep the focus where it belongs—on your family and the connection you share.


The finished gallery feels bright, airy, and full of warmth, exactly the kind of photographs I hope families will love for decades.


Including Big Brother


Toddler siblings bring so much personality to newborn sessions, and Aiyla's big brother was no exception.


He was full of energy, curious about everything, and loved showering Mom and Dad with hugs and kisses. Rather than expecting him to sit perfectly still, we embraced his playful personality and let those genuine moments unfold naturally.


Some of my favorite images from the session are the ones where he's simply being himself—snuggling close, wrapping his arms around his parents, and soaking in all the love that comes with becoming a big brother.
