For mamas taking family photos in Sacramento this summer:

This outfit guide is for you.

Let's be for real- putting outfits together is not how you want to spend your free time. Plus, it's all on you when hubby doesn't have an opinion.

That's why I'm blogging my summer outfit cheat sheet. This is meant to be plug and play so you don't have to do any thinking at all.

The Trick? Dress Mom First

Girl, I know you're tempted to find a dress for your toddler first but pause for a second. You are the anchor of your family. You're the glue that makes everyone happy and healthy.

Find your dream dress, then style everyone else around you. It makes things 10x easier.

The Colors of Summer

When it's winter, you wear warm colors. When it's summer, you wear cool colors!

I find that these cool tones evoke the feeling of carefree summer days:

Choose your pastel color, then mute it!

I highly recommend going with muted pastel shades. Chances are the background of your photos will have color already (greenery, flowers, etc) so you don't want to overdo it by wearing something saturated.

Always remember-- you should be drawn to FACES first in family photos. If outfits are competing, you miss the connection/beauty of the people in the photo.

Take these dresses for example:

If you wear color, dress everyone else in light neutrals

That means white, cream, ivory, khaki, light grey, very light denim, etc etc. You honestly can never have too much white because it makes your natural skin tone GLOW in pictures. If you're feeling adventurous, add subtle hints of pastel colors to accessories like bows and shoes.

And vice-versa: if you wear a neutral color, pick one of the kiddos to wear a pastel color. The goal is to add a *sprinkle* of color to your outfits.

Now you've got it!
