Meet the Family
When Emily and Alexis contacted me for photos, they had just had a newborn boy (just 2 months old!) and were looking to get some photos taken of their new little family. They're actually from Nevada but both grew up in the Sacramento area, so they really wanted a family photographer Sacramento CA to capture this new phase of life for them.
The Session Location
I recently came across a stunning flower farm in the area. This is an iris flower farm that ships flower all over the country, something I had never known (and I grew up in the Sacramento area!). It's also a private property with over 5 acres of land, so there are so many other spots to take photos as well-- including the pond and pampas grass pictured above.
The irises were not in bloom when we took photos (this was November), however, there were other flowers in bloom which you see in the photo below!
I was in awe seeing just how much the florals added to the storytelling of this session. Just as flowers grow, change, and bloom, the Ruiz family was growing in not just numbers (hello baby boy!) but also in how fast their sweet little guy growing, blooming, and changing day by day. I love how this translated to the photos.
The Session Flow
Because there were no toddlers or older kiddos involved, this session flow was very calm, serene, and cuddly. Which makes sense since this baby boy was just so sleepy and happy as a clam as soon as I met him. We started out with photos at the pond where we could get dreamy, diffused light coming through the pampas grass.
During our initial consultation call, Emily told me they would probably need a lot of posing guidance, to which I said, I have GOT you girl! I love when clients say this because I totally understand (we're not all models) and I want you to feel as comfortable as possible in front of the camera.
One tactic I love to use is actually verbally and visually showing you how to position your body so there's zero confusion or awkwardness. I think we all had such a good time and it honestly felt like we were chatting and laughing while getting a few photos here and there.
This session with the Ruiz family was so much fun and I'm so happy they have some gorgeous photos to hang in their home and cherish as their little boy and family continue to grow. Enjoy their full gallery below!
